BEST OF: Before and After

The past two weeks have been pretty crazy in my house.  With the combination of studying for my October 1st exam and a bit heavier workload, my schedule has been packed.  It's easy to become overwhelmed with this much going on, but I'm happy to be busy with something I love so much!  I have a couple beautiful before and after projects finishing up soon, and I can't wait to share them with you.  Until then, I thought I would do a compilation of some inspiring "before and afters".  I love a good before and after!

Monday Morning Mix: Favorite Products Edition

I thought I would switch things up a little this morning and share with you a few of my favorite products as of late.

First up, is the new Ikat Collection designed by Sara Baldwin for New Ravenna Tile.  It's great to see a new design with the glass mosaic tiles, and for those like me who like to use American-made products, it's made in Virginia!  I need to find a project to use this on sometime soon or I might have to order some for myself.  Any takers?

This one is a splurge, but it's so timeless and beautiful.  Solid marble and available in two colors, this is the For Town collection kitchen sink designed by Michael S Smith available through Kallista. http://www.kallista.com/

As most of you know, I love a gold accent.  This writing desk is one of my all time favorite pieces of furniture.

Seeing how Target debuts their Missoni line tomorrow, how could I not mention something on this list from the collection?  This line seems to be a little more broad than some of their other designer collaborations in the past.  These trays really caught my eye, so I'm hoping they live up to their online appeal when I see them in person tomorrow.

Everyone needs a unique accent piece somewhere in their home.  This Mother of Pearl inlay chest is a perfect example of that for me.  I have a weakness for intricate inlay, making this always a favorite.

Electric Feel

I had the recent pleasure and opportunity to tour The Urban Electric Company in North Charleston.  Located in an old industrial building, you walk up to the second floor to find an amazingly sleek space complete with showroom, offices, meeting spaces and full manufacturing facility.  Walking up the steps that seem to be unaltered from their first days, you are greeted by a beautifully urban showroom. The production area, where craftsmen are hard at work making one-of-a-kind fixtures, is a unique process to watch, and truly makes you appreciate the designs and quality of Urban Electric Co's lighting.

Sheets of brass used for the fixtures that are formed and laser-cut

This is the finishing process where their numerous finishes, such as nickel, brushed brass, and oil rubbed bronze are applied and polished by hand

The pieces above have just been hand polished to perfection for the assembly process.

Finished pieces go in the "cubbies", above, for the craftsman's next piece that will be created.

Example of a fixture being completed.

An order of polished brass shades receiving the finishing touches, almost ready for the final polish, then sent out to the client.

How amazingly beautiful are these fixtures?  Especially after knowing the hand craftmanship put into each individual piece, it gave me a new appreciation for their beautiful light fixtures.

FIFTEEN FABULOUS FLOORS

Wood, marble, travertine, patterns, stripes, rugs...  The options for floors are endless.  Whether it's how you use the material or just the beauty of the floor itself, you can make such a statement in a room.  Try one space in your home and put thought into the material of your floors or the pattern you use, and see how it changes the entire design of the room.

Which floors are your favorites?  I just love the patterns on the bathroom floors and the glossy wood floors.

Time for College Football!

Football season is finally here!  I love this time of year!  Fall weather is around the corner and my team, the South Carolina Gamecocks, will be playing for another SEC championship opportunity.  Unfortunately, I won't be making the trip to Charlotte for the first game of the season, as I will be studying.  I used to never miss a game or tailgating opportunity.  How is it that the older I get, the harder it is to make it to all the games?

In honor of college football and the Gamecocks, I thought I would share some images of the Williams Brice Stadium suites' renovation that I completed last year.  Here is a before and after sneak peek of the suites on the West side of the Stadium.  Note: the footprint of each suite could not change, so the new design had to fit within the existing space, without any demolition of walls or expansion.
